 Family:  Ipnopidae (Deep-sea tripod fishes)
 Max. size:  18 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathydemersal; depth range 402 - 1408 m
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Gulf of Guinea region. Western Atlantic: between 35° and 10°S, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Northwest Atlantic: Canada (Ref. 5951).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 9-10. Outer 2 pelvic rays prolonged to reach origin of anal fin; lower caudal rays not prolonged; subcaudal notch present at base of lowermost caudal fin (Ref. 13608).
 Biology:  Synchronously hermaphroditic. Fecundity of 4,500 eggs for one specimen.
