 Distribution:  Asia: Mahanadi, Krishna and Godavari river systems in India.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Occurs in rivers. Feeds on algae, protozoans, rotifers and crustaceans. Does not breed in ponds. Cultivated in ponds in South India. Fry are collected for stocking purposes.
 IUCN Red List Status: Endangered (A2acde+3cde+4acde) (Ref. 96402)
