 Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Cichlasomatinae
 Max. size:  14 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic; pH range: 7; dH range: 20
 Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin, in tributaries of the Ucayali and Amazon rivers in Peru, and the Solimões-Amazon River in Brazil.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Has been caught, sporadically, in lentic environment such as zones of flooded grounds, as well as estuaries where the tidal current is notable, along the banks with thick riverine vegetation. Omnivorous but mainly frugivorous (Ref. 35237).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
 Country info:  Reported from Rio Negro, its type locality, in the Peruvian Amazon and Araguay (Ref. 35237). Occurs in the Amazon, Ucayali, Marañón (and adjoining lagoons) and Nanay Rivers; also in Lake Quistococha. Exported as an aquarium fish (Ref. 9235). Also Ref. 36377.
