Diagnostic characters: early caudal development; hypural margin pigment: first forms line, then an anteriorly open bracket; similar smaller bracket develops on the caudal peduncle; slightly separate dorsal fins; anal fin longer than second dorsal fin. Pigment: on about every other myomere along ventral midline; distinct spots on hypural margin, increase in number with development to become a line; large melanophores cover entire surface of gut; several large melanophores on crown; anterior dorsal midline starts on nape, increases posteriorly. Sequence of fin development: caudal, dorsal and anal, pectorals and pelvics.
