Restricted to brackish water habitats; endemic to Black and Caspian Seas (Ref. 92840). Found inshore, on pebbles or gravel, and also some offshore banks; migrates to shallows in spring (Ref. 4696). Eggs deposited under and between stones (Ref. 4696).
