Espinas dorsales (total): 11; Radios blandos dorsales (total): 13-14; Espinas anales 3; Radios blandos anales: 8. Grey with numerous yellow stripes. Juveniles with a small black side-spot that shows intermittently in adults (Ref. 48635). Adult with horizontal stripes yellow faint on sides and black spot on soft dorsal-fin anterior. Median fins yellow, pectoral-fin axil brown upper side. Dorsal scale rows obliquely rising above lateral line. Preopercular notch developed moderately Body depth 2.4-2.6 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Swim well above the surface of the reef in aggregations, consisting of several hundred individuals (Ref. 11902, 48635).
