Etymology: Salmo: Latin, salmo, Plinius = salmon (Ref. 45335);  multipunctata: Named for its diagnostic pigmentation pattern, having numerous spots and marks along the body.

Description synthétique Morphologie | Morphométrie

Rayons mous anaux: 11 - 12; Vertèbres: 53 - 55. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: with numerous, irregular and narrow parr marks, usually ?14, in the lateral line; upper row of parr marks ?10 and the lower row variable, usually ?5; 2 conspicuous black spots at the right and left sides of the iris and two less visible spots at the upper and lower sides; numerous black, small spots at the upper side of the body and several red ocellated and non-ocellated spots in the middle of the body; the black spots are sometimes extended to the opercular region and the caudal fin; ethmoid bone with a characteristic T shape; premaxilla bone with small and inclined upper process; 14-16 (median = 14) scales from the base of the adipose fin to lateral line; 12-14 dorsal fin pterygophores (median=13); and 9 molecular autopomorphies in MT-CYTB gene in the nucleotide positions 60, 216,474, 504, 732, 849, 915, 990, 1090 (Ref. 107622).
