Etymology: Etheostoma: Greek, etheo = to strain + Greek, stoma = mouth; Rafinesque said "various mouths", but Jordan and Evermann suggest the name might have been intended as "Heterostoma (Ref. 45335); luteovinctum: From the words luteo, meaning yellow, and vinctum, banded (Ref. 10294). North America: Stones, Collins (Cumberland River drainage) and Duck River (Tennessee River drainage) systems in central Tennessee, USA.
Occurs in shallow rocky pools of headwaters, creeks and small rivers (Ref. 5723); also found in streams and springs (Ref. 10294). Feeds on midge larvae (Ref. 10294).
