Feed mainly on krill and mysids. Spawn in autumn and winter (Ref. 50743). Synchronous spawner (Ref. 50743). Utilized as a food fish (Ref. 4931). The Australian Mackerel Icefish fishery of this species has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (http://www.msc.org/) as well-managed and sustainable (http://www.msc.org/html/content_1255.htm).
